Hello!
My name is Matthew Deboysere, a student at University College West-Flanders. People in my neighborhood call me ambitious and motivated, which is a very good thing for a 20 year old guy.
When I was 16, I started as a freelance editor at a small Dutch gaming news website. The system the site was running on seemed to crash every hour and that’s when I had my first real contact with PHP and MySQL. When time passed by, I eventually became the head of that website and at that point I decided to completely remake it. The result is coming very soon on http://www.gamescores.nl and will be a dynamic website, based on the CodeIgniter framework using other tools like JQuery. The design is not created by me, but I had a huge influence in the creative process. The conversion to CSS and XHTML is mine.
This portfolio was created as part of my submission for an internship at Studio 24 in Cambridge (UK). As I’m interested in programming and web development (I can handle multiple languages like C#, Java, VB.NET, PHP, ASP.NET and more) I think this internship would be great for me. The reason why I actually had chosen for an international internship is because I like to travel and meet different cultures. I understand I will have to work, but the fact that I will live for three months in England makes me feel comfortably. I’m not scared for what’s coming because I lived for over three years in The Netherlands, which had a completely different type of culture than here in Belgium. They are less discrete then us. I also visited France, the UK and the States and I always had the chance to change my habits very soon. I really liked the UK because people have something mysterious and I want to know what’s under that solid Britain skin.
This internship will create new chances in my future. I still have doubts about what to do next once I finish my school this year and maybe working at Studio 24 will help me making that decision.
